1.Acid 

Naming : 

The word acid is derived from Latin word "acidus" which means sour.

Properties :

* Acid have sour test.

* It turns blue litmus paper red.

* It change the colour of an acid-base indicators.

* Aqueous solution of acid conduct electric current.

* Strong acid are very corosive to skin and fabrics.



2.Bases :

Definition :

Base is any metal oxide(CaO) or hydroxide(NaOH) that react with an acid to produce salts and water.

Properties :

* Bases have bitter test.

* These are soapy in touch.

* It turns red litmus paper blue.

* It change the colour of an acid-base indicator.

* Their Aqueous solution contact electricity. 

* Strong base are corosive.



3.Alkalis :

Definition :

Alkalis are those base which are water soluble.

Properties :

* In Aqueous solution it produces hydroxide ion(OH).

* All alkalis are bases.

* But all bases are not alkalis.
